Goldfish Salvation by Riusuke Fukahori

Last year I spent some time painting koi's and whales tangled in oceanic waves the color of green grassy fields, the paintings now hang at home and have had many compliments throughout the year. I paint as a way to relax and in no way a pro at it. Brea had found this video and thought about me, thanks for sharing. Hoang Painting Koi. Creative Session

The amount of dedication, detail and time involved for this is overwhelmingly impressive!

3 Minutes w/ Mynority - MA&C

Sidestory: November marks the time of year we all start traveling for the holidays. Whether it's homeward bound or vacationing in exquisite locations, our final destinations are something we all look forward to. For Thanksgiving 2011, I had been anticipating a much needed break from the San Francisco grind and was looking forward to a bit of relaxation back home with family and friends in Portland, Oregon. I planned to do nothing... (could this be true..? obviously not)

I blame it on finding joy in working hard; is this insane? I'm not sure. It could be that I'm doing what I love, therefore loving what I'm doing.

I made time this Thanksgiving to connect and shoot a featured interview with long time friends; Marquis McNeil, Isaih Marcell, Olu Majekobaje, Tyler (Halfa) Monk, as well as two new dudes, Aaron Dickson and Timothy Greenidge, who makes up the company Mynority, based in Portland, Oregon.

This is the final interview video; be sure to read about them after the jump:

Featured Story:

Mynoirty embroidery_creativesession interview

Mynority is about Art, Music and Fashion - These guys are a prime example of principles we live by here at CS. We do not just like to talk about things; we become proactive and make shit happen - whether the results are good or bad, the journey brings plenty of lessons learned. Like Malcom Gladwell said, "To be a genius, you must put in 10,000 hours of practice," - theses guys are going to continue to grind, and in due time they're going to ahead of the crowd because they started something, while most are only talking about it.

Marquis of Mynority explained he started the brand back in college while being inspired by individuality. To design clothing he loved with like-minded folks. The brand is about art making and designing apparel that has an exclusive appeal; not one piece is similar to the other, because each piece is hand crafted individually.

While interviewing the whole team, I picked up on details that you usually don't get to see as an outsider looking in. Unfortunately, I had to keep the interviews short (only 3 minutes long), so I had to trim it a little to keep the interview video precise. Here are some quotes that I found to be rich and fruitful from the cast of Mynority;

"My personal fashion is very eclectic; I don't want to fall into one single genre so what I bring to Mynority is that same kind of confidence." - Olu Majekobaje

"As you know we say FAM alot. What's dope is we are a FAM. Our company entails fashion, art, and music- which spell out FAM" - Isaih marcell

"Mynority paints a lifestyle, with my music that's what I want to do, paint an image, make music that is driven by creativity" - Tyler Halfa Monk

"When I think about the start of Mynority man, I think about... Number 1: we are all FAM, we're all cool hanging out together, who else would you want to eat with....." - Tim Greenidge

Mynoirty detailclothes_creativesession interview

Mynority is continuing to expand - One expansion is music, with Isaih and Tyler focusing on building a strong musical branch for Mynority member Tyler Monk, known by rap name Halfa . He has released a mixtape called Intermission, you can download it here: Listen and download Intermission ASAP

Starting the Oregon sweaters

Finally made a little time between all the regular work I had to swing by Keith studio in Oakland to start designing the final Oregon graphics for us to make the screen. Nixon "The Minimalist" Concept Watch

Nixon pioneers some of the most aesthetically interesting watches to us. They are a brand we've continued to follow and be inspired by. We're quite positive a percentage of you have friends whom own at least one or more purely because of how well designed these watches are. Here at the CS lab we are more than familiar with the Nixon brand, the recent Tone on Tone Ad by Nixon is something we reference and keep on being influenced by. With this said we're giving it a go, here is our own spin on a Nixon watch called "The Minamalist"

"simplicity is the new black."--creative session

"The Minimalist" is a design inspired to be pure simplicity. Our goal is to design a watch that equates to "Less but Better." The question we asked our selves was; How do we make something more meaningful by taking away? We understand as we continue to grow expectations began to pile up, with more expectation we require more time. "The Minimalist" is our attempt in removing the anxiety to our constant battle with time and disguising it subtly. Designing the watch we redirected the focus to the hour hand of the watch, by doing this - the initial read should give the watch bearer the approximate hour of the day and not be distracted by the minutes left within that hour. The minute hand is designed to be a secondary focus. With the "Less but Better" philosophy we also wanted to focus more on the materials and design but less on the overwhelming graphics most companies add to their watches.

"Tha Business" C.S says PROTECT THY SELF

Legitimate use of violence can only be that which is required in self-defense.

Ron Paul

**UPDATE - FEATURES** Gizmodo - Gadget Blog Discover - Gear & Gadget Yanko Design - Design Blog

In early September we did a lot of commuting to and from the city to capture the essence of SF for the “Intel IDF” event. Often times we found ourselves caught up in some sketchy situations (not necessarily first hand, but more like a witness or bystander.) An idea came to me while walking down a street scandalous enough to make me wish I had a bat in hand just in case something crazy breaks out.

A reminder sketch. I doodled this as soon as I got home.

The Business project, early concept sketch.

“Tha Business” is a self defense kit. A concept designed to target people who commute at odd hours of the day and are often caught in sticky situations. My inspiration is a wallet size magnifying lens. I thought it’d be pretty knarly to design a deck of self defense cards. Things such as brass knuckles, pepper spray, pocket knives & whistles to name a few. These are common self-protection objects most civilians carry. Essentially the person would be able to pick and choose the specific tool s/he would need depending on the situation.

So this began my design adventure. The project was short, but a fun exercise in graphic, packaging & industrial design. I specifically chose this idea so that I can polish up on my graphic and packaging department.

3 Minutes w/ Paul Vu Photography

"I will probably spend less than 1/100th of my lifetime actually snapping photos, but hopefully my photos last more than my lifetime."

-- Paul Vu

Paul Vu is someone we consider ambitious, talented and has been establishing himself in parallel to Creative Session for quite some time now.

Being Portland bred an artist and in the same age bracket, it's surprising our creative journey has never crossed paths until now. Paul recently relocated from Portland OR to Oakland CA  post finishing a degree in Commercial Photography from the Art Institute of Seattle. His goal is to keep evolving as a photographer, seek new adventures, network & to add to his impressive portfolio.

Paul has a knack for active lifestyle photography, but this doesn't limit him in experimenting with new forms of photography. His photographs are amazing and he continues to query boundaries and challenge himself with each project. We are doing this featured artist interview of Paul because of his recent collaboration on the project we designed for Intel, If you haven't seen the Intel posting yet check it out here. The collaboration between Paul and C.S was the creative "Session." Thanks Paul without you we would have ended up with poor quality photos and a low resolution 26X8ft graphic for Intel.

Check out the interview:

Paul just finished a photoshoot this week @ the Hornet for a Game convention hopefully these photos will surface sometimes soon. Keep an eye on this guy everyone. Here are a few samples of his work.

Nike ACG "Boat Dream"

Lately I've been ultra busy with work, work. I mean Lab126 work.

Yes, CreativeSession is just a side hustle that Bro and I started back in 07' It's a way for us to collaborate with other artist, designers to do crafty, designer'esk type things. I'm very proud of C.S and how far this journey has taken us. What I appreciate most about my life as of yet is that I get to design 24/7. My 9 to 5 @ Lab126 is to design products for the Amazon brand. We just released 4 new kindles BTW. (be sure to pre-order yours.) After the 9 to 5 hustle, If the energy is there I'd unwind with dinner and a beer and have a bit of fun Creative"Sessioning" with little Bro.

This week we both have been burnt out from designing electronic products at work so decided we'd revisit our high school infatuation which is shoes. Both him and I actually went to school to become shoe designers. 4 years later the geeky, techie bug had us! We are both now product designers that still wished we kept our sneaker dreams.

Audi B2 Concept Skates

As an industrial designer I'm forced to live one life, and one life only; a highly sacrificial one. I spend my days chiseling away chunks of my brain in hopes of revealing a smarter future by designing products and experiences that impact how we will live five to ten years down the road; So while you're enjoying your iPhone 4, we designers are out creating the 6! Simple task? No. Bruised brain? Yes, but I'm willing to trade anything for a little CreativeSession love!

This project however, is the total opposite. I see it as an escape from the daily mind grind. It's always nice to be able to sit back, put A-1 on the tracks, and rock out a quick mindless illustration for the pure love of art.

After cruising Coroflot for a few hours I was crazily inspired by some of Jan Bujnak's work which led me to the illustration of these boots! Enjoy!   Creative Session hoang m Anh T Nguyen Audi Boot Jan Bujnak

CreativeSession on Highlight Reel @ IDF 2011 day one

This is exciting to us over at the CreativeSession lab. The recent wrap-up on a graphic project with Intel had mad love thank you everyone for reading and having a beer with us when it all was over. Back in July we were approached by them to design a huge- 8ft by 24ft collage of San Francisco's landscaped used for a future camera concept they demoed at IDF (intel developers forum) IDF had just ended and some highlight reels have surfaced from the company! Here is a highlight video from day one:

New Concept Brewing

So while trend & inspiration browsing yesterday at work and Idea came to me. Sketching the concept right now! this should be a fun project. CreativeSession Sketching new IDEA

Intel x CreativeSession

--------------We wrapped up a project back in July on a cool graphic gig for Intel. They are using the graphics in union with a piece of technology that will be announced this week at the IDF show in SF. The project took roughly a week long and Creative Session was brought on to do a huge 8ft by 24ft set design of San Francisco. The requirement was to capture a panoramic view of SF, then collage in some significant landmarks and graphically treat the final design with some Creative Session spices.

Intel CreativeSession Design Project

In conceptualizing our design, we wanted to capture the cliche touristy imagery of SF because the attendee's who will be seeing the huge mural come from all over the world. It'd be quite tough to realize SF if we had captured the more intimate street views of San Fran. We also didn't want to be fully cheesy so we added neat locations into the mix (cars&bird) that appeal to us.

Intel CreativeSession Design Project

Also wanted to articulate the unique weather patterns we love as the San Francisco experience. If you look carefully the fog clears from the left side of the graphic to the right, you should faintly see the Golden Gate Bridge hiding behind the thick clouds. Some of the more recognizable clearer details are the street signs, public transportation, billboards, Coit Tower, Twin Peaks and various sculptures found on Embarcadero.

Intel CreativeSession Design Project

The graphic will be on display @ the Moscone Center downtown San Francisco. Its a private event so im pretty sure most of us will not have the opportunity to see it in person. Last night the crew got a chance to come watch Intel set up and observe the staff members set up proper lighting and test out Intel's soon to be revealed future of photography.

Intel printed 2000 shirts for the event using a cropped portion of the final design! We got to leave with about 5 as souvenir.

ACG Lunar Lite "For Kicks & Giggles"

SHARE THIS ON YOUR FACEBOOK IF YOU'D ROCK THESE! ;) Like most of you out there I'm a "sneaker freak," it's an exciting hobby that continues to dig deep holes in my non existent pockets. I was born and raised in Portland Oregon a town where EVERYONE has access to the "ES." What's the ES? It's the street term for the Nike Employee store, extremely exciting if you ask me! At 40-50% off new Nike releases, I was inhaling multiple pairs of sneakers on the weekly!

Nike ACG Lunar Lite

Anywho, back to my creative assets. As an industrial designer I've been blessed with the opportunity to work with a few fresh names out there including Nike, Adidas, Puma, Pearl Izumi, etc... but unfortunately designing sneakers on a daily basis isn't my cup of tea... So here i am, rocking out a fresh pair for kicks and giggles!

Let's be honest, ACGs are off-road/trail shoes that are mostly worn on the streets... so why not fuse 'em with some street friendly light weight sneaker materials and finish! :)
